This collection evokes that process—the descent and the rise—the gripping silence and the rough transformation.”

Muszka Sándor (író, költő)

18.00-19.00 Concert by Gábor Leskovics
Gábor Leskovics, known to many as Lecsó, founded the band Pál Utcai Fiúk back in 1983 when he was still a teenager. Since then, the band has been a regular fixture at almost every festival and club across Hungary. From the 2000s, alongside Pál Utcai Fiúk, he’s also been a frequent collaborator with Kispál és a Borz, contributing to their songwriting. In 2005, he co-founded Kiscsillag with András Lovasi, becoming a core member and key songwriter. Over the years, he’s written countless songs, and during this show, he’ll be playing mostly from that catalog, sharing stories about how those songs came to life and how they sounded when performed solo on guitar in intimate settings. The evening will also feature some of his favorite songs that inspired him when starting the band and since, especially from Hungary’s ’80s underground scene. And depending on the vibe, any song might pop up, so don’t hesitate to shout out your requests!

A 45–50 minute verse theater performance with improvisation, presented by Kanavász Theater. The poems are shared in different ways — sometimes complete, sometimes in parts, sometimes set to music, and sometimes mixed with humor and pantomime. The mood shifts throughout: sometimes joyful, sometimes serious, sometimes lighthearted, sometimes thought-provoking, and sometimes just for fun. The show features classic poems by Sándor Petőfi, given a modern twist. Familiar lines are brought to life with a mix of pop, funk, rock, and jazz, offering fresh sounds and new interpretations of these timeless classics. Performers: Zselyke Szabó, Gergely Mózsi Balla

Public discourse isn’t just about politics — it influences how we live together and how we think about our nation and each other. We believe in the power of dialogue, in meaningful debate, and in the idea that public life can be shaped for the better. This panel will look at the state of social and political communication today and explore how intellectuals can play a key role in renewing public life. Our aim is to highlight the values worth preserving, identify the harmful trends that need to be addressed, and encourage stronger dialogue between politics and the intellectual community — all to help build a more open, cooperative public space.

16.30-18.00 Benedictine students in public life, Benedictine students on public life
Students who graduate from Benedictine schools often go on to hold leadership roles in public life. This tradition was established by great predecessors such as Lajos Batthyány, Hungary’s first prime minister; Gábor Baross, former Minister of Transport; Ferenc Deák; and Otto von Habsburg. Recent notable figures like István Kukorelli, constitutional judge, and László Nógrádi, Minister of Transport, have only strengthened the legacy of the Benedictine presence in public affairs. These examples, though not exhaustive, show that today’s Benedictine alumni serving in politics and public life face serious expectations. Alongside Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and County Head Botond Sára, the discussion participants live out this legacy every day. Their opinions, perspectives, and insights provide guidance, inspire ideas, and demand attention. The conversation will first focus on the connection to Benedictine schools (Pannonhalma, Győr) and the values and experiences gained there. The second part will address current public issues, drawing on the expertise of the participants, not just from their professional viewpoints, but enriched by the insights of the other discussants.

15.15-17.00 “Here you must live and die”: Intellectual and Governmental Sovereignty in a Globalized World
How can we preserve Hungary’s intellectual and political independence in a globalized, often homogenizing world? The basis of this debate is the working document “Our Destiny Questions 2025”, which seeks answers to how our thousand-year-old statehood can be protected in the 21st century, and by what means the younger generation can be shaped into a future community that safeguards sovereignty. Crucial questions, clear answers — in a debate focused on the stakes of national self-determination. Because without sovereignty, there is no future.

We evoke the days leading up to the Battle of Mohács in 1526 and the king’s dilemma. Time is running out, and the fate of a nation depends on the king’s decision. Our interactive performance explores the question: how would a modern 20-year-old handle such an unimaginably heavy burden? What would we do if the fate of the country rested on our shoulders? It’s about coming of age, responsible decision-making, and taking on the weight of history. Expert: Szabolcs Varga Director: Zoltán Komlóczi Performed by: Zsolt Szabó

11.30-13.00 Trade policy challenges
The geopolitical shifts of the 2020s have significantly altered the global economy. The increasingly free trade of previous decades, the role of multinational corporations as “states within states,” and the rules-based world order are all being increasingly questioned. The Trump administration brought changes in this area as well: protectionism returned, and tariffs became the new bargaining tool. Europe seems to be increasingly lost in a world that speaks the language of power. What did Brussels get wrong, and what should it do? And what is Hungary’s role in all of this?

14.00-15.00 STOP domestic violence, START safety!
So far this year in Romania, 28 women have fallen victim to intimate partner or domestic violence, and these are just the cases reported in the media. The actual number of victims is likely higher. Many of these cases probably unfolded over a long period before ending in homicide, even though both the abusers and victims were known to state institutions. This suggests that the current system for addressing domestic violence isn’t effective enough. Legal reforms are needed, but equally important is a united social effort to adopt best practices based on values that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place. For example, raising awareness about the importance of self-understanding and making resources available to both victims and perpetrators.

17.30-18.30 Wagner Viktória, the free good friend
Wagner Viktória (1907–1994) stood firmly with strong faith and exceptional conviction in defending human life and health. She was a social sister and a Green Cross health visitor. She always set an example through her faith, love for people, and professionalism. She proclaimed, "Our weapon is overwhelming love!" Her dedication went beyond the rural and housing estate districts where she worked as a health visitor — she thought deeply about the entire profession. Her life example, faith, and service as a health visitor continue to inspire generations that followed. On June 13, 2025, she was posthumously awarded the Health Visitor’s Lifetime Achievement Award by the MVSZSZ.

Where are we headed, and who will continue down this path? 14.00-15.30 Fragile strength or invisible shield — do you have a mental shield?
A generation that can face today’s challenges needs a strong and stable mental state. Our mental shield—the one that helps block out harmful, soul-draining influences—is weakening and at risk of disappearing. People who struggle to form connections and feel deeply often fall prey to the lure of consumerism, profit-driven values, and the quick rewards offered by easy solutions. In a world filled with addictions, instant fixes, and digital overload, protecting our emotional and mental stability is a responsibility we all share, both as individuals and as a society. Together, we’re working to rebuild this mental shield.

16.00-17.30 Can the traditional family be revived? The rise of the tradwife movement
Despite having one of the world’s most organized and well-funded family policies, it’s still uncertain whether there will be a next generation. Or maybe there will be? Let’s discuss! Having children and raising them is a social commitment based on trust, but only women can give birth. The real question is whether they want to or even can, in a world focused on achievement, where free time is a rare luxury, and where a culture of instant gratification often leads to collective irresponsibility. The tradwife movement pushes back against this seemingly family-unfriendly reality, and its followers have already begun to appear within Hungarian communities.

13.00-14.00 Marriage and Divorce, Marosvásárhely Style
A common theme—and a cliché often overused in pop culture—is the harshness of justice and punishment during the Middle Ages and early modern period. Strict moral codes were rigorously enforced, punishing men and women alike who broke both “natural” and “divine” laws by having sexual relations outside of marriage. Historical legal codes reveal some truly brutal penalties. However, in his lecture, Árpád Botond György offers a more balanced perspective by examining surviving court records from early modern Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș).

12.00-13.30 Invisible but close – the silent spread of psychoactive substances
Psychoactive substances are quietly becoming a part of everyday life sneakily: instead of causing obvious destruction, they slowly lead thousands of people to lose their self-control and freedom through gradual habituation. Addiction doesn’t always show dramatic symptoms — often it works silently, deeply changing the way people think, their relationships, and the course of their lives. What used to be a marginal issue is now moving into the spotlight, and its greatest danger is that it becomes accepted as “normal” without anyone noticing.

13.00-14.00 Who owns Europe's money?
As Europe's economic influence wanes and its competitiveness declines, EU funding is increasingly being directed toward ideological purposes: politically-driven civil initiatives, LGBTQ lobbying efforts, and fake "civil society" groups that label government communication as "fake news" are being supported by Brussels. Meanwhile, local communities, families, churches, and indigenous national minorities are being sidelined. How much longer can this continue? What options do patriotic forces have to reshape the use of EU funds? And how can the European project be redefined as a project for the European people once again?

13.00-14.00 About the Present and future of Architecture

12.00-13.00 What makes a national public collection successful?
Almost one-quarter of Hungary’s national assets are preserved and managed by national public collections, placing significant responsibility on these institutions. Yet their social, economic, and political recognition often does not reflect this importance. We also ask whether Hungary’s largest and oldest public collections can be considered successful — at home and abroad.

10.00-11.30 Religious orders serving the spiritual renewal of the Carpathian Basin
Why is it important for someone to serve God as a monk rather than as a diocesan (secular) priest? Where are monastic communities present locally in the Carpathian Basin, and in which areas and social groups do they live out their vocation and carry out their service? What difficulties does today’s world bring for monastic life? How attractive is the monastic vocation to today’s youth from the perspective of the universal Church? How do Hungarian monastic communities stand in terms of vocations? Are there differences in the number of vocations among the various Hungarian communities across the Carpathian Basin? How much does the rise of liberalism affect the spiritual life of Carpathian Basin (Szeklerland) congregations, for example, in church attendance and sacramental life? How effectively are new digital opportunities being used in preaching and ministry? And finally, the perennial question: how and where can we best reach young people? This discussion, organized through the collaboration of the Batthyány Professors’ Circle and the Maria Kopp Institute for Demography and Families focuses on the connection between the family and the nation as a whole. 11.00-12.30 New paths – what awaits higher education in the coming decades?
Higher education isn’t just about training skilled professionals — it’s about nurturing responsible thinkers who want to build and strengthen communities. We live in turbulent times, facing rapid change. You’d think history has shown us that the only way to get through tough times is by coming together and supporting one another. But unfortunately, that’s not always how things play out. There are still those who harm, and the real question is whether enough people will stand up and unite against it. This panel will explore what role higher education can play in meeting that challenge.

14.30-15.30 Young workers navigating the complexities of labor law and exploring platform work as a potential student job.

16.00-17.00 Szellemi Rapidrandi - A közösségi vitaest
A játék elején kis asztaltársaságokba osztjuk a résztvevőket.

12.00-12.45 Mohács 500: The Latest Research Findings
Mohács is more than just a battle. It is a symbol—an enduring trauma that we have been trying to understand for centuries. What new details can science uncover from a story that is 500 years old? This presentation explores battle sites, camp locations, mass graves, and the possibilities of reconstructing the battle, through the combined interpretation of written sources and archaeological field data. Since 2009, the Janus Pannonius Museum in Pécs has been leading a research program aimed at locating the sites of the 1526 Battle of Mohács, revealing shocking and deeply moving details of this national tragedy.

13.00-13.45 Future? What’s that?
Think about what a typical Tuesday in your life might look like 10 or 20 years from now. How will you be living? Who will be with you? When you talk about your future, do people laugh at you, try to discourage you, or support you? How many people believe in what you’re capable of? And do you believe in your future? These are the questions Éva Bonczidai, editor-in-chief of Magyar Kultúra magazine, explores. Using the life and choices of Mór Jókai, she also looks at how people in the 19th century thought about the future.

15.00-16.00 The sky’s the limit! Space industry, space exploration, innovation, AI
There is no doubt that improving Hungary’s competitiveness requires an innovation-based economic policy. The innovation ecosystem has developed significantly in recent years, with university-business collaborations taking off, research infrastructure improving, and several flagship programs underway in this field. Just think of the achievements in space exploration or artificial intelligence. Where does the space industry stand today? What successes has the HUNOR program achieved? What does it mean for us and for innovation that, after 45 years, a Hungarian astronaut has once again traveled to space?

10.00-10.45 Elections and public opinion polls in Central Europe
A tavalyi romániai elnökválasztáson kiesett a közvélemény-kutatások egyik favoritja, bejutott viszont egy olyan szereplő, akit többen nem is tüntettek fel a jelöltek versenyében. Lengyelországban veszített a hónapokon át állítólag toronymagasan vezető globalista jelölt azzal a szuverenista Karol Nawrockival szemben, akinek tavasszal még a második fordulóba jutását is kétségbe vonta egy-egy mérés. Magyarországon most egyes kutatók ugyanúgy baloldali fölényről beszélnek, ahogyan tették ezt négy évvel ezelőtt, amikor végül hatalmas győzelmet aratott a Fidesz. Mi állhat a jelenség hátterében?

14.00-14.45 The culinary history of Transylvania
The culinary history of Transylvania is much more vibrant than one might expect. The region’s food traditions are remarkably diverse, shaped by centuries of coexistence among multiple nationalities and the blending of various cultures. Hungarian, Romanian, Saxon, and Armenian influences have all contributed to the unique character of Transylvanian cuisine. Rooted in local ingredients and refined over centuries, this culinary heritage remains a key part of the region’s identity today. Eastern influences, multicultural traditions, and the customs of rural, bourgeois/noble, and religious communities are all reflected in Transylvanian gastronomy. Speaker: Dr. Róbert Török, Director General of the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism (MNMKK).

Török Róbert (Director General, Hungarian Museum of Commerce and Hospitality (MNMKK))

15.00-15.45 King Matthias Hunyadi’s magnificent Corvina Library in Buda
During King Matthias Hunyadi’s reign, it’s remarkable that the most fragile items—books—have survived the most. While buildings, statues, and conquests have been lost, nearly 220 beautifully decorated manuscripts from his royal library, the Corvina, remain. The National Széchényi Library has long made it a priority to preserve this historical and cultural treasure, which has been a key part of Hungary’s national identity for centuries. This talk will present the Corvina Library based on the latest research, offering new insights into its origins and its role in shaping Hungarian culture. It will also cover how the national library uses modern technology to protect this important collection that extends beyond Hungary’s borders. Speaker: Dr. Edina Zsupán, literary historian, philologist, and codicologist, HUN-REN – MNMKK OSZK Fragmenta et Codices Research Group

17.00-18.30 Environmental protection – Life preservation – National defense
The key to the future of the Hungarian-speaking population is increasing birth rates. From a medical standpoint, women at 35 are six times more likely to face fertility issues than those ten years younger. For women at 40, the risk of miscarriage is much higher than that of giving birth to a healthy baby. Men’s fertility also drops significantly after age 25. What can history teach us about these trends? How do ethnographers, historians, and literary scholars see the demographic changes? And what do medical professionals have to say?
